Bible verses about Motherhood

bible verses for moms

1. Bible verses for moms who are weary

Bible verses on motherhood

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest – Matthew 28:11.

Jesus in the book of Matthew tells us to come to Him all who are weary. He is the Lord God of comfort and protection. As moms, there are many times where the feeling of overwhelm and exhaustion can set in. It is in Jesus where we can find peace of mind and joy to persevere through all of life’s difficulties.

2. Submit Your Worries to Jesus

Bible verses about mothers

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light – Matthew 11:30

When we submit our troubles to the Lord in prayer, there is a feeling of lightness. Talking to God in prayer and asking Him to direct our steps so that we are guided by the Holy Spirit will help ease our burdens.

3. God’s Power is Made Perfect in Our Weakness

Bible verses for moms

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9

It is in our weakness that we tend to rely more on Jesus. If we had it all worked out and living a dream, there would be no need to pray or to worship God. Our hearts might be filled with pride, because of our accomplishments. But, it is in our weakness that we are made strong in the Lord.

4. Real Beauty from Within

Bible verses on inner beauty

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 1 Peter 3:3-4

This bible verse talks about the beauty that comes from within. While people in the world may judge by outward appearance, God looks at the heart.

This is clearly demonstrated in the Book of 1 Samuel, where Samuel goes out to find a new King to replace Saul and he visits a man named Jesse. God instructed that one of Jesse’s sons would be King. While Samuel was looking at the outward appearance of his sons, God was after their hearts and picked David.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7 (NLT)

5. Teaching Children

Bible verse on mom

Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 11:19

God wants moms to teach the way of the Lord to their children as it is important in today’s world. It is hard for children to understand values, respect and most of all fear of the Lord. A healthy fear of the Almighty God, will help kids stay clear from negative influence, and lies and deceit of the enemy. When children have a strong biblical foundation, they will be unshakeable.

6. Being Obedient to God

Bible verses for moms and daughters

Be careful to obey all these regulations I am giving you, so that it may always go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord your God. Deuteronomy 12:28

God demands for His children to be obedient and Deuteronomy explains how God blesses the obedient, and rejects the disobedient (Deuteronomy 28:15). God disciplines His children because of His grace, so that we may see Him for who He truly is.

7. Blessed are those who trust in the Lord

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. Jeremiah 17:7

There are so many things in life that are out of control. When we sit back and ponder on the fact that it is God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, who is the one in control, it can make us feel relieved. The relief comes from knowing that our confidence comes from the Lord and not from our own self-effort.

8. Building a Foundation for Children

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6

There is a parable of Jesus in Matthew 7:24-27, where He talks about building our foundation on the Rock. Jesus says that a wise man will build his house on a rock, while a foolish man would build his house on sand. Jesus wants us to have a strong foundation, that no matter the circumstance, we will be firm and steady on the Word.

9. Honour Your Father and Mother

Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12

While this is one of the Ten Commandments, it is important to remind ourselves of them on a daily basis. Situations in life can bring out the worst or best in people. But when we constantly live in the Word, it is easier to find our mind when it goes against how God wants us to live.

10. The Hard Working Mother

She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. Proverbs 31:17

Proverbs 31 is one of the most popular Chapters for women in the bible. It touches on topics such as hardwork, generosity, faithfulness, fear of the Lord and is always prepared. But the key takeaway here is to use wisdom in all that we do, and this wisdom is given to us by God through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Without God, we cannot accomplish half of what we are meant to do. It is the Lord who gives us strength to do everything.

11. The Faithful Mother

She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Proverbs 31:26-28

Continuing on from the previous Proverbs 31 verse, this verse above emphasises on the importance of wisdom and faithfulness. We are blessed by the grace of God and not by our own good works (Ephesians 2:8-9).

12. Sharing Wisdom and Passing them Down to Generations

I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. 2 Timothy 1:5

This is a letter written by Paul to Timothy. It teaches us the importance of faith that is passed down through generations. As moms when we teach our children the ways of the Lord and instil in them faith in Christ, it goes a long way.

Bible verses about Mothers

As a mother, it is our responsibility to guide our children through life’s challenges and to instil in them the values and principles. The Bible offers guidance on how mothers and daughters can build strong relationships and navigate life’s ups and downs together.

Children are a Gift from God

Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Psalm 127:3

Obey Your Parents

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” which is the first commandment with a promise “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. Ephesians 6:1-3

Listen to Parents

Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Proverbs 23:22

Disciplined through Hardship

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? Hebrews 12:7

Children of the Light

You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 1 Thessalonians 5:5

Biblical Examples About a Mothers Role in the Bible

Many women in the Bible exhibit great devotion to their children. One of the most well-known examples is the story of Hannah in 1 Samuel. She prayed for a child and promised to dedicate him to God if He would grant her request. When her son Samuel was born, she fulfilled her promise and brought him to the temple to serve God.

Another example is the mother of Moses, who risked her own life to save her son from Pharaoh’s decree to kill all Hebrew baby boys. She placed him in a basket and set him adrift on the Nile River, where he was eventually found and adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter.

Being a mother is not an easy job, and it requires a lot of patience and love. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, we read that “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

The woman whose son was alive was deeply moved out of love for her son and said to the king, “Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don’t kill him!” But the other said, “Neither I nor you shall have him. Cut him in two!” Then the king gave his ruling: “Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother.” 1 Kings 3:26-27

As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you and you will be comforted over Jerusalem. Isaiah 66:13

A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. John 16:21
