Many of us may be familiar with the famous Chapter about a virtuous woman in Proverbs 31, but today were are going to look at the other scriptures that bring hope for women.
Not only are these scriptures uplifting, but they also enlighten us on how we can become strong women of God, following the righteous path directed by God.
14 Encouraging Scriptures for Women
1. We are Created in God’s Own Image
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27
Right at the start of the Bible we see that God created both men and women in His own image. Being created by God, we are to first honor Him, by walking in righteousness, thereby glorifying His Holy name.
2. Male and Female are One in Christ
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28
Following on from the previous verse, this scripture also highlights the importance of equality of both man and woman in the eyes of God. Regardless of your ethnic background or geographic location – all are one in Christ Jesus.
3. Created to Do Good Works
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
We have been made a new creation through Jesus. This is talking about being born again through salvation in Christ, which is repentance and turning away from old habits. It is not a physical rebirth but a spiritual one, where we now go after God’s heart and not the things of the world.
4. In this World Trials are Inevitable But…
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Following Jesus does not promise a trouble-free life. But God gives us the grace and strength to overcome the challenges (1 John 5:4) and receive salvation for our sins (1 Thessalonians 5:9). These are the two things Jesus promises us when we submit to His perfect will.
5. Trusting in God’s Will Even When You Don’t Understand It
Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her! Luke 1:45
These words were spoken by Elizabeth to Mary when Mary came to visit her. Elizabeth recognized that Mary followed the instructions of the angel and was ready to give birth to Jesus, as a virgin. This is a powerful reminder of how we are to be willing to follow God’s instructions and trusting in His perfect will.
6. Inner Beauty
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 1 Peter 3:3-4
Humility is one of the main characteristics of a Godly woman. This verse describes that a woman who is of a gentle and quiet spirit finds favor in the sight of God. It is not so much how we are on the exterior that matters to God, but it is the inner self that counts.
7. Being Kindhearted is Honourable
A kindhearted woman gains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth. Proverbs 11:16
There is a lot spoken of in the Bible about humility. It is through kindness that we bring about joy and happiness. And when others see your goodness they will be curious to find out the source of your happiness who is Christ Jesus. In Matthew 5, Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others, so they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in Heaven.”
8. Women of Faith
Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment. Matthew 15:28
No matter who you think you are, you matter to God. In the Gospel of Matthew, we see a Gentile woman approach Jesus for the healing of her daughter. The way Jesus talks to her might seem discouraging at first, but He is actually testing her faith, and proving to her that it is the true faith of a person that matters more than anything else.
9. A Wise Woman
The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down. Proverbs 14:1
When a woman builds her family on Godly wisdom, she and her family will obey the Lord. It is the fear of the Lord that will prevent us from doing things that are unworthy of God. God is love, but He is also to be glorified and honored above everything.
10. Strength in Christ
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being. Ephesians 3:16
Christ dwells in our hearts through faith, so that we may come to know the fullness of His love. It is the strength that we have in Jesus that we can overcome any obstacles in life, as we are guided by the Holy Spirit.
11. Blessed are You who Trust’s in the Lord
But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. Jeremiah 17:7
Our trust should not be in worldly pleasures but in the Almighty God. With whom nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37). When we put our confidence in God, we are relying on something more powerful than anything in Heaven or on Earth. Heaven is God’s throne and Earth is His footstool (Matthew 5:34-35), and rightly so as He is the Creator of Heaven and Earth (Genesis 14:19).
12. Man and Woman come from God
Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. 1 Corinthians 11:11
The importance of unity between man and woman, as husband and wife is highlighted here. God created woman from man, and as they multiplied, man was also born from woman. But above all, we come from God, which is what we need to remember. He is our master, and only Him shall we serve.
13. Our Weakness Can be Our Strength
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9
In this verse, Paul the apostle talks about a weakness he had, and he brought it up to the Lord three times. But God says to Paul my grace is sufficient for you because His power is made perfect in weakness. Likewise, if you have a problem, be it a physical ailment or a financial problem, it is when you have a weakness that you tend to draw closer to God. And it is by His grace that we can overcome this problem.
That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:10
14. Bible Verse for Married Women
The entire Chapter of 1 Corinthians 7, is worth reading concerning married life. In the day and age we live in, married life is often looked at from a different lens than what it was, even a decade ago. So much has changed and it is best to read the whole chapter and be led by the Holy Spirit to understand the wealth of knowledge in it.
