Breakthrough scriptures in the Bible are powerful when used in prayer to overcome the impossible.

Whether you are struggling with a hard decision, in need of a financial breakthrough, or seeking to get closer to God, these scriptures, when used in prayer, can breakdown those barriers.

The biggest power and source of comfort is Jesus Christ.

There is power in the name of Jesus.

Jesus has the authority to cast out demons, heal the sick and even raise the dead. There has not been one man like Jesus, who has ever lived or will ever live.

Jesus is God in flesh, who died to wipe away our sins, so that we can receive eternal life.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)

Receiving Your Breakthrough

I believe receiving a breakthrough goes beyond just a physical miracle. It also involves a change in mindset, knowing that God is bigger than our problems and that nothing is impossible with Him.

Once we align our ways of thinking, even if we face a mountain of a problem, we will start to see past it.

This way of thinking can only be made possible, by studying God’s word.

The scriptures and stories in the Bible are there to motivate and encourage us to live in this fallen world, where sin exists in every form.

It was only a few years ago, where I thought the Bible was just a book with a list of laws to follow. But the truth is it is a way of living according to Gods purposes if we simply align out way of thinking.

There is a bible verse for almost all areas of our lives; from marriage, career, love, obedience, prayer, fasting, faith, healing and believing for the impossible.

Fasting is one way to believe for a breakthrough.

Fasting does not need to be only about food. It is about giving up something the flesh desires to receive spiritual blessings. See what takes up most of your time, and does not benefit you. For some it can be social media, YouTube or even a series on Netflix. If these things are costing you time with God, you can begin to avoid them by doing a digital detox for a week or 30 days. You will come to realise, that you are better off without these distractions.

Not only is prayer and fasting an act of faith in God but is also a way to humble ourselves before the Lord. (Psalm 35:13).

Here are some ways the Bible teaches us on how to fast and pray.

How to Pray for a Breakthrough

Mark 9:14-29 is a powerful story on the power of prayer.

To summarize this Chapter in Mark 9, a man came up to Jesus and said his son suffers from seizures and often falls into fire and water. The man had brought his son to Jesus’ disciples but they weren’t able to heal the boy.

In Matthew 10:8 we know that Jesus gave His disciples the power to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers and cast out demons. So when they were unable to heal the boy they were confused.

The boy was then brought before Jesus;

Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy and he was healed at that moment. Matthew 17:18

Seeing this the disciples ask Jesus why they were unable to heal the boy.

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you”. Matthew 17:20

Having faith is to believe that God has a good plan for our lives and if we ask for anything that aligns with His will, we will receive it.

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Matthew 21:22

How to Fast for a Breakthrough

God rewards things done in secret.

Whether it is giving to those in need. (Matthew 6:4)

Praying. (Matthew 6:6)

Or fasting (Matthew 6:18)

While the Bible doesn’t clearly tell us the lengths and duration we are to conduct fasts, it is always best to pray and ask God for guidance through the Holy Spirit in this matter.

Each of our bodies are built differently and its best not to push ourselves beyond how much our body can handle.

Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew, describes how we are to fast.

He says we are not to look gloomy, so that others may see that we fast. But we are to fast in such a way that it is pleasing to the Father.

But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. (Matthew 6:17-18)

Breakthrough Scripture in Isaiah 58

Although we have covered prayer and fasting, the fasting needs to be done in accordance with God’s word.

Isaiah 58 is so powerful in explaining to us what a true fast really means. It shows us the difference between a false fast and a true fast – the type of fast that will cause heaven to release a breakthrough for you.

First let us see why fasting has not resulted in a breakthrough.

Isaiah 58:3 (ESV)

Why have we fasted, and you not see it not? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you take no knowledge of it? Behold, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure, and oppress all your workers.

Isaiah 58:4 (ESV)

Behold, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hit with a wicked fist. Fasting like yours this day will not make your voice be heard on high.

So we see that fasting and being humbled alone does not please God, when we are not spreading love and peace.

Now lets see how the Lord describes a true fast.

Isaiah 58:6 (ESV)

Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of the wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

So we are to fast in a pleasing way to God, where we help others, spread peace and love.

Then shall your light break forth like dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry and he will say, ‘Here I am’. If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light rise in the darkness and your gloom shall be as the noonday.

Isaiah 58:8-10 (ESV)

How powerful is that!

Now your healing will speed up, righteousness shall go before you, and the Lord will say ‘Here I am’.

The entire Chapter in Isaiah 58 is a powerful breakthrough scripture. If there is just one scripture you want to meditate and follow on, Isaiah 85 would be the best chapter. It very clearly tells us what we are are to do to allow heavens doors to open for us.

If you do have a Bible, I would recommend reading the entire chapter from 1-14, where you can get into the full depth of this chapter. Learn how to reach out to those in need and to help them so that God sees our good heart and satisfies our desires.

Its not about the act of fasting on its own, but one that leads to repentance and to spread love to one another.

God blesses our hearts more than our actions. When our heart is in the right place and in alignment with Gods word, powerful things happen. That’s why reading the word of God is so important, because only then we truly understand how we are to live our lives here on earth.
