2 John Summary

John opens the letter by addressing it to God’s chosen people.

Three important truths are revealed in this letter.

  1. An Important Commandment
  2. Deceivers
  3. False Teachings

Important Commandment

To love one another (verse 5).

According to the book of Matthew, Jesus said,

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. Matthew 22:37-39

Do Not Be Deceived

The highlight of every believer is walking in the truth which is Christ. But the downfall is when they are led by deception.

➡ Who is a deceiver, according to John? Answer: Verse 7

Why is this important? Answer: Verse 8

False Teachings

One verse that explains this in its fullness is verse 10,

If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting.

3 John Bible Summary

In summary, the book of 3 John talks about showing hospitality to those who are concerned with spreading the word. It also emphasies the importance of walking in truth and imitating good and this is the nature of our good God.

Walking in the truth – verse 4

Support fellow workers of the truth – verse 8

Do not imitate evil, but imitate good – verse 11

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17
