While there are many who consider Jesus to be a prophet, a miracle worker or a good teacher, the real Jesus can only be revealed through the scriptures.
Was He just a historical figure who taught good moral values?
Why is it important to believe in Jesus?
The truth is, Jesus is revealed throughout Old Testament scriptures, leading up to the New Covenant.
For example, one can argue if God the Father saw Jesus as God, and if it is written anywhere in the Bible.
The Father indeed calls His Son, God, and this can be found in the first chapter of Hebrews.

Hebrews 1 – Who is Jesus, the Son of God?
The entire book of Hebrews reveals the true heart of God – to save mankind by His grace, through His Son Jesus.
Let’s read Hebrews 1:1-9, with the following breakdown of the verses.
God First Spoke to People through Prophets
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways. Hebrews 1:1
Then Jesus came into the World
But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. Hebrews 1:2
Who is Jesus?
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. Hebrews 1:3
Jesus is God’s Only Son and is to be Worshiped
For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”? Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”? And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” Hebrews 1:5-6
Did God Call Jesus God?
The verse below is God talking about His Son Jesus Christ,
But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. Hebrews 1:8
Did the God the Father just call His Son Jesus, God?
Here is the next verse,
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. Hebrews 1:9

Bible Verses where Jesus says He is God
1. Jesus says Only God is Good
In Luke 18:19 Jesus says,
“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.
But later Jesus ends up calling Himself the Good Shepherd in John 10:11,
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
Does this mean that Jesus is God?
2. Jesus is Worshiped and called God
In the book of Revelation when John fell down to worship at the feet of an angel, the angel told him not to do that. The angel goes on to tell him that we are to only worship God.
Revelation 22:8 – I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!”
But, Thomas who was a disciple of Jesus calls Jesus as God,
Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” – John 20:28
Jesus never stopped Thomas from worshipping Him as God, but goes on to say;
Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29
3. The First and the Last; the Beginning and the End
In the Old Testament, God speaks to the prophet Isaiah saying;
“This is what the Lord says – Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.” Isaiah 44:6
In the New Testament Jesus calls Himself the First and the Last in the book of Revelation;
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” Revelation 1:17-18
Here is another time Jesus calls Himself the First and the Last; the Alpha and the Omega,
Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Revelation 22:12-13
4. Every Knee Shall Bow at the Name of Jesus
Here is another scripture by the prophet Isaiah who speaks Gods word saying;
“Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other. By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear. Isaiah 45:22-23
This scripture that every knee shall bow is attributed to Jesus in the New Testament;
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:10-11
5. No One Can Snatch them out of My Hand
God is eternal and no one can be snatched out of His hand.
“From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can snatch anyone out of my hand. No one can undo what I have done.” Isaiah 43:13 (NLT)
Jesus also promises eternal life to all who believe in Him, and also says that no one can snatch them out of His hand.
“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me.” John 10:28 (NLT)
6. The King of kings and the Lord of lords
Scripture about God in the Old Testament;
For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. Deuteronomy 10:17
Bible verse about Jesus in the New Testament;
They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers. Revelation 17:14
John 1:29 clearly states that Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
7. Only God is Holy
This Old Testament bible verse states that God alone is Holy;
There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. 1 Samuel 2:2
Even the unclean spirits knew that Jesus was Holy. The is what the spirit of a possessed man spoke to Jesus.
“What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One of God!” Mark 1:24
8. God Our Savior
In the Old Testament;
Truly you are a God who has been hiding himself, the God and Savior of Israel. All the makers of idols will be put to shame and disgraced; they will go off into disgrace together. Isaiah 45:15-16
In the New Testament about the birth of Jesus Christ.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:11
Other Bible verses in the New Testament about Jesus being the Savior of the world.
And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 1 John 4:14
This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:3-4
While the Old Testament and New Testaments state that God is our Savior, the New Testament goes on to name Jesus as the Savior of the world.
9. Salvation through Christ
In the Old Testament,
Let all the world look to me for salvation! For I am God; there is no other. Isaiah 45:22 (NLT)
In the New Testament,
You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15 (NLT)
God the Father and God the Son
Reading these passages may seem somewhat confusing because, while Jesus takes on the titles of God the Father, He still stands out as a separate person from the Father. This is why the concept of the Holy Trinity in Christianity may seem confusing to a new believer, but as we continue to read scriptures, we get to understand how the Father, Son and Holy Spirit all work together, yet are considered to be One God.
For example,
In the book of Matthew 28:19, Jesus tells His disciples to go and baptize everyone in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
It is interesting to note how Jesus uses name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and not names.
As humans it is impossible to fully comprehend the nature of God and His majesty.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. Isaiah 55:8
Prayer and reading the Bible is the only way we can deeper our connection with God to understand His true nature.

Who is Jesus Bible Study
If you are looking for further bible verses about who Jesus is, the best place to start in with the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. These are a compilation of Jesus’ teachings and sayings to understand the meaning behind His quotes.
1. Jesus told them to tell No One
Jesus told the people He healed not to tell anyone about the miracles He was doing, because His time had not yet come. Jesus does everything in perfect timing and since He had come to offer Himself as a sacrifice, He didn’t want His miracles to effect His purpose on earth.
On the Mount of transfiguration, Jesus told His disciples not to tell anyone of what they had seen.
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.” Matthew 17:9
When He restored sight to the blind, He told them to tell no one.
And their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.” Matthew 9:30
2. Jesus spoke in Parables
When the disciples asked Jesus why He spoke in parables, this is what Jesus replied;
The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. Matthew 13:10-12
It is not that the disciples were special to understand the secrets of heaven, but that they were willing to believe in Jesus. That’s why this verse ends with Jesus saying that more knowledge will be given to those who are willing to receive.
Jesus is found to end some of His teachings with this verse;
Whoever has ears, let them hear. Matthew 11:15
3. My Sheep Hear My Voice
Jesus had a mysterious way in conveying His messages, and this one is no different.
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27
Jesus calls for people to believe in Him as He is the Good Shepherd (John 10:11) and those who follow Him are His sheep that He looks after. He promises to give those who believe in Him eternal life (John 10:28).
4. Truth will set you free
Some of the Jews questioned Jesus on why they needed to be set free, as they were descendants of Abraham. But Jesus replied, that everyone who sins is a slave to sin (John 8:34). The Bible also tells us that all have sinned (Romans 3:23). So this means all of us need a Savior, whether Jew or a non-Jew (Gentile).
Jesus gives an answer to this problem:
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples, Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32
What is the truth?
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:17
5. Believe in God; believe also in Me
God in the Old Testament tells us that we are to only honor Him as the one true God, and that there is no God besides Him (Isaiah 45:21).
But Jesus tells us to also believe in Him.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” John 14:1
6. Why did the Jews want to Stone Jesus?
There are multiple times where the Jews wanted to stone Jesus, because they considered what He said as blasphemy.
Here is one such instance ,
“Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” John 8:58
On Jesus making this statement, they picked up stones to stone Jesus.
I Am is the name of God as written in the Old Testament.
When Moses asked God, who He was and how was he to let the Israelites know that God was leading him, God told Moses;
God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:14
