**These posts are to encourage everyone to read the Bible, and get a deeper understanding of Gods Word. |
The call of God is when you know God has called you for a purpose, but not really sure what you’re meant to do.
Or perhaps you have a general idea of what you want to do, but you’re not sure if it’s what God has called you to do.
Finding God’s calling on your life can be challenging and sometimes confusing, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.
Below are 7 ways to find what God has called you to do and how you can fulfil your calling.
God is Sovereign and Almighty and no one can understand His ways, which is far beyond human comprehension. So these steps give you an understanding of how God often leads His people.
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.
Ephesians 1:18
What is the Call of God?
I believe the main call of God on earth is to draw people closer to Him and bring glory to His kingdom.
The call of God is when believers in Christ understand they are chosen by God for a specific purpose in life. We are each chosen by God, for a different role and in a different capacity.
The main purpose of God’s calling on your life is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but how we do it is different for each of us. |
Not all of us are born to be bible teachers and pastors, but God through His Holy grace, will guide us into our specific purpose as we continue to submit to His will.
➡ Here are 7 ways to find God’s calling on your life.
*The following bible verses are taken from the ESV translation
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
God’s Calling on Your Life
We are all to grow and mature in the body of Christ.
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. Ephesians 4:11-12
Tell of all His wondrous works and make known His deeds among peoples, as written in Psalm 105:1-2.
Whether it is by preaching, teaching, sharing the Gospel to friends and family, serving others proclaiming the name of Jesus – whatever you feel God has put in your heart. Do it in the mighty name of Jesus!

1. Become a New Creation
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17
First step is to accept Jesus Christ into our hearts as Lord and Saviour so that we may receive the Holy Spirit.
It is the Holy Spirit within us that will guide us in this journey, giving us the wisdom and knowledge to discern the voice of God. |
By accepting Jesus Christ, we begin to see changes in our lives, as the Holy Spirit guides us with new understanding as we read the scriptures.
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Colossians 3:12
And when this happens, suddenly, there is a shift in our way of living.
His will becomes our will, His plan becomes ours and His love shines through us. That is the power of Jesus Christ that begins to manifest in our lives.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
2. Understand His Heart, by Reading His Word
To understand the heart of God, we must begin to read the Bible daily, because it is through scripture that God imparts wisdom and understanding.
God is the Creator of the Heavens and the earth, which is clearly established in the very first verse of the Bible. As creations of God, we are to bring glory to our Creator by walking in His ways.
All scriptures are given to us to understand, learn and to share the message with others. Unless we learn it ourselves, we are not going to be able to share it with those who need God’s presence.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16
Reading Bible verses without understanding the context behind each verse can be misleading. |
For example, one of the biggest question in the church today is, if Jesus is God. The trinity – the unity between the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, is often questioned. If we as believers, would do a deep dive into scripture, this truth can be revealed to us.
One of the most misquoted verses is found in John 10:29, where Jesus says the Father is greater than all. Many may use this quote to wrongly leading people to believe that Jesus is not God. But if you continue reading the very next verse, Jesus says, I and the Father are One. And further on to verses 31-33 it says, that the Jews picked stones to stone Jesus because they say that Jesus was proclaiming to be one with God.
When Jesus says the Father is greater than all, He is talking about the role and not the deity, as Jesus is God, and studying the bible will reveal this truth to us.

3. Be Guided by the Holy Spirit
God often uses the bible to speak to us through the Holy Spirit. The bible is filled with stories, miracles, life lessons and teachings of Jesus, which are all still applicable in our lives today.
As we begin to read these Chapters, I believe the Holy Spirit will reveal to each one of us, how these bible stories resonate with our own lives on a daily basis.

Being guided by God’s word will lead us to our calling.
Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. this is my rule in all the churches. 1 Corinthians 7:17
4. Finding Your Gift
When God leads us into our calling, He will equip us with the right resources as we walk in obedience.
For me it was through this online platform. I had been working in digital media for a while before God showed me that I could use the same skill, for a different purpose – one that would bring glory to His kingdom.
God can use people, scriptures, preachers/pastors, family and other different ways to communicate His message to you. |
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. James 1:5
God gives wisdom and understanding to those who ask Him.
But for any of this to happen, we need to have a sound knowledge of God’s Word, by studying the bible.
It is not our good works that saves us, but through His Word.
Who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began 2 Timothy 1:9
It took me over 2 years from the time I committed to read the Bible till I saw Gods hand move in my favor. Patience and obedience is key, which bring us to the next stage. Isolation.
5. Season of Isolation
God often put His chosen people through a period of isolation and testing. This is the stage where God may feel like He is hiding Himself from us.
We may feel like we’ve hit a brick wall. |
After all the bible studying, the praying and fasting – it now feels empty.
But God often tests our obedience during this isolation period, before His greatness is revealed.
It is easy for man to praise God when everything seems perfect, but it is the ones with true faith who can praise God even in times of trouble and distress. God is in search of such people.
6. God is Still Watching You
God will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). When you are following God’s will in being obedient to His Word, He sees you, even in your phase of isolation.
God rewards the obedient. |
Not only will God’s calling on your life be fulfilled, but so will His blessings be great over your life.
And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Deuteronomy 28:1-3

7. Entering Your Calling
When you finally enter into God’s calling on your life, it is important hold on to your roots – to remember the reason for your calling.
It is not self ambition.
Nor is it about prosperity.
But about bringing glory to the Kingdom, by putting God before everything else. And as a bonus, God will also allow prosperity to flood your household – such is a God we serve.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
As God blesses you in your calling, it is important to constantly remain humble, as it is the Lord God who provides, and it is in His will for us to be blessed through obedience.

Final Recap on God’s Calling on Your Life
One of the first steps in finding God’s calling on your life is to seek Him in prayer.
Ask Him to reveal His plan for you and to give you the wisdom and discernment to understand it. Spend time in His Word, seeking His guidance and direction. Sometimes God will speak to us through a specific passage of Scripture, through a friend or a book. The key is to remain open and receptive to His leading.
