The Bible is filled with stories of people who trusted in God and demonstrated incredible faith, even in the face of adversity.
From Abraham to David to Paul, there are countless examples of individuals who relied on their faith to overcome challenges and accomplish great things.
Examples of Faith
The bible tells us, that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
While we live in a visual world of social media, faith is the belief of the things of God that are invisible.
After His resurrection, when Jesus visits Thomas He says, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29 (NKJV)
1. Abraham’s Faith
Abraham’s Faith: Genesis 22 |
One of the most well-known examples of faith in the Bible is the story of Abraham. While he was tested for faithfulness, multiple times, Abraham still remained righteous before God.
➡ Leave home
First, God called Abraham to leave his home and go to a new land that God would show him. Abraham trusted God and obeyed, even though he did not know where he was going.
➡ Believe for a Child
Next, on a more personal front, Abraham believe when God told him he would have a son even though his wife Sarah was past child bearing age. God fulfilled His promise as Isaac was born to Abraham and Sarah in their old age.
➡ God Tests Abraham
Abraham’s faith was tested again when God asked him to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Abraham obeyed, believing that God would provide a way out. God stopped Abraham from sacrificing Isaac and provided a ram for the sacrifice instead. Abraham’s faith was rewarded, and he became the father of many nations.

2. Noah built the Ark by Faith
Noah’s Ark: Genesis 6 |
God saw that the earth was filled with wickedness and decided to flood the earth to start over.
God chose Noah, a righteous man, to build an ark to save himself, his family, and two of every kind of animal.
➡ Follow God’s Instructions
Can you imagine building or creating something that only you and God understand? People around you may not understand, in fact you may not sure if you are doing the right thing at times. Yet, like Noah if we follow God’s instructions by faith, we will be saved from unseen disasters – like Noah and his family.
3. Moses was Faithful to God
Faith of Moses: Exodus 3 and 4 |
➡ Stood boldly with confidence in God, before Pharoah
➡ Moses displayed many signs and wonders, by the power of God
Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, but they were trapped at the Red Sea with the Egyptian army closing in behind them. Moses had faith that God would deliver them, and God parted the Red Sea, allowing the Israelites to cross on dry land. When the Egyptian army pursued them, God closed the Red Sea, drowning the army.

4. Joseph was Faithful to God Even During Trials
Faith of Joseph and His Dreams: Genesis 37 |
Joseph’s journey began with a dream where he would rule over his brothers, who were envious of this vision and sold him into slavery.
Despite this betrayal, Joseph remained steadfast in his faith and eventually rose to a position of power in Egypt. He was even able to forgive his brothers and reunite with his family.
Throughout his life, Joseph faced many trials like being falsely accused and thrown into prison for 2 years. However, he never lost sight of his faith in God.
His story teaches us the importance of trusting in God’s plan, even when we don’t understand it. As we navigate our own struggles, we can look to Joseph’s example and find hope in the knowledge that God is always with us.
5. Faithfulness of David the Shepherd Boy
David and Goliath: 1 Samuel 17 |
Another example of faith in the Bible is the story of David. As a young shepherd boy, David was anointed by God to become the future king of Israel.
Despite facing many obstacles and enemies, David trusted in God and relied on his strength to defeat Goliath and become a successful king.
Like many of us David failed in his demonstration of faith, but the key here is that every time he failed, he went back to God.
6. Faith of Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah
The Fiery Furnace: Daniel 3 |
Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were three young Jewish men who had unwavering faith in God. When they were young, they were taken captive by the Babylonians to serve in the court of King Nebuchadnezzar.
Jealous of their faith in God, the Babylonians put them to test and ordered that they worship a golden statue of the king or sent into a furnace. Refusing to bow down to the image, they were thrown in the furnace, only to come out completely unharmed.
This teaches how to remain strong in faith even when situations arise that go against our belief in the God Almighty.
7. Daniel and the Den of Lions
Daniel and the Lion’s Den: Daniel 6 |
Daniel was a faithful servant of God, but he was thrown into a den of lions because he refused to stop praying to God.
Daniel had faith that God would protect him, and God shut the mouths of the lions, sparing Daniel’s life.
The king was amazed and declared that Daniel’s God was the true God.
Examples of Faith in the New Testament
While we have seen some powerful examples of faith from the Old Testament, let us take a look at what faithfulness looks like in the New Testament.
8. The Faith of Mary
The beginning of the New Testament is with the birth of Jesus to a Mary who was a virgin. Yet, Mary showed incredible faith and trust in faithfulness to God as she accepted the news that she would conceive and give birth as a virgin.
Mary’s faith in God’s plan for her life, serves as an inspiration to believers to trust in God’s plan for their own lives.
9. Peter Walks on Water
Another example of faith in the New Testament is the story of Peter walking on water. Jesus teaches us a valuable lesson, that by faith anything is possible with God.
➡ When Peter trusted the Lord:
When Jesus appeared to his disciples walking on the sea, Peter asked Jesus to command him to come to Him on the water. Jesus did so, and Peter stepped out of the boat and began walking on the water towards Jesus.
➡ When fear took over:
But, when Peter saw the wind and waves, he became afraid and began to sink. This story illustrates the importance of having faith in Jesus, even in the midst of difficult circumstances.
10. From Saul to Paul
The story of Paul’s conversion is another powerful example of faith in the New Testament.
Paul, formerly known as Saul, was a persecutor of Christians until he had a dramatic encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. After this encounter, Paul’s life was transformed, and he became one of the most influential figures in the early Christian church. Almost half of the New Testament writings are contributed to him.
