Do all roads lead to Heaven?

While there are different concepts of how one can enter into Heaven, in this post we are going to take a look at how you get to Heaven according to the bible.

It is impossible for every road to lead to Heaven and here’s why. God is not a God of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33), teaching us that all paths lead to Heaven. It can become chaotic, if we accept every ideology as true. Because if this is true, then what is the standard by which this “level of good to be in Heaven” is justified? For example, in order to pass an exam, you need to achieve a certain score, if you drive on the road, there is a certain speed limit you must follow. So what is this standard set by God to enter Heaven?

In Matthew 5:48 Jesus slips in this message that we must be perfect. But He also knows what is in man (sin) which He mentioned in John 2:25. The reason we must be perfect is because we serve a Holy God who takes no part in sin. Revelation 21:28 says this about entering The New Heavens and New Earth which is a future event,

But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

So how do we become perfect human beings?

Will God accpet us if we 10 right things and forgive the 1 wrong thing we did? Or if we do 5 wrong things and 5 right things, will God still be ok with us? The truth is, the bible teaches us that, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). This means that even though we want to do good things and be right with God, it is impossible to do it on our own. And God knows that we are certaintly going to make mistakes in this life. Regardless of how hard we try, we might still work in anger, jealous or envy, which are still considered sin in the bible.

This is why accepting the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross is the only way to attain perfection. Not through what we did, by what He did. This is why Hebrews 10:14 tells us,

For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

By Jesus’s sacrifice on the Cross, He has made us all now perfect in Him. If we stand before God on the day of Judgement, without Jesus, we have to give an account of why we need to enter Heaven which is a perfect place, free of sin. But if we stand before God as one who has been ransomed by Jesus on the Cross, we can enter into Heaven by what Jesus has done, and not what we have.

Isaiah 33:22 explains this perfectly,

For the Lord is our judge; the Lord is our lawgiver; the Lord is our king; he will save us.

God is not only the One who judges us and the author of the Law, He is also the One who saves us from this Law that judges us based on our sins. Many people misunderstand the concept of why Jesus had to come to earth and die for our sins. Some believe He was simply a prophet or a Godly man who was innocently betrayed. Yet, this bible verse in Isaiah tells us that it is God who saves us from sin. To add to this statement, read what Acts 20:28 says,

Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.

Did you catch it? It says that God has bought/purchased/redeemed us through His own blood. This is what Isaiah 33:22 says, when He says justice needs to be served, yet He served that sentence on the Cross for us. It was our punishment for sins that Jesus took on Himself. This statement on its own proves that Jesus is God, who saved us by His own blood.

Have you ever wondered, why Jesus said, “It is finished?” Could it be that He accomplished something important for us, that can now save us into eternal life?

For those Wondering, “Why Can’t We Do this On Our Own?”

Matthew 5 is a good Chapter to read on this. In verse 22 Jesus teaches that even if we are angry with someone, or call someone bad things, we are held accountable for what we say, and liable to judgement for those words. God knows we are not perfect and it is impossible for mankind to be perfect, which is why He made a way through Jesus. No matter how much we try, we are sure to make mistakes, with sinful thoughts, unclean words or simply being envious or jealous of someone.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Jesus did not come to create a new religion, He came that sin may be wiped out, from your life, and it is only possible if you believe in Him. He was the payment for our sin nature and when we believe and love Jesus, He loves us back by allowing us to enter into His kingdom. This love is mutual and cannot be forced. Think about it this way, when you are invited to a friend’s birthday party, only those who want to go, will go, the birthday girl/boy cannot force someone to come, the guests have to be willing to come in their own will. God’s invitation is for everyone to come into His Kingdom, but He can’t force it. He knows that today you may do good and tomorrow may be a not-so-great day, so to save us from being harsh on ourselves He made a way, knowing we will continue to make mistakes, and knowing that He will continue to forgive as He is a compassionate God.

Did Jesus Give Up His Life Only for Christians?

No. Christianity was a human creation. Jesus called all mankind to follow Him and become children of God. The invitation to enter Heaven through Jesus is open for anyone in the world, and we can read this is Revelation 5:9 which says this about Jesus,

“Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation”

By His own blood, Jesus saved every tribe, every nation and every people of this world, but the invitation is not valid if it is not accepted.

The concept is very simple. Sin entered the world through Adam and Eve at the garden of Eden, now that human beings possess sin as part of their nature, we can strive to do some good, but this is not good enough the enter Heaven, unless we accept a ransom that was paid for our sin nature, which was the blood of Jesus.
