The book of Titus is a letter from Paul the Apostle to Titus. It covers topics such as qualifications for church leaders, men and women in the church, and devoting ourselves to the good works that God has called us to do.

Titus Chapter 1

The Truth

In the beginning verse, Paul talks about the truth that teaches them to live Godly lives and is the source of eternal life (verse 2).

We know this truth is Jesus from John 14:6.

Becoming a Church Leader

Just like in 1 Timothy 3 where Paul talks to Timothy about the qualifications of church leaders, Chapter 1 in the Book of Titus also addresses the same topic.

Study ➡ verses 6-9.

False Teachings

Paul makes sure he address the topic of deception in almost every letter he writes, and he does so in verses 10-14.

Points he covers:

  1. Deception
  2. Circumcision vs salvation
  3. False teachings because of greed
  4. Myths that turn people away from the truth

Those who claim to know God but are led astray and lead others astray: Verses 15-16

They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work. Titus 1:16

Titus Chapter 2

How to Live

Older men: Be respectful, wise, dignified and excersise self-control (verse 2)

Older women: Be reverent, not be heavy drinkers and teach others what is good (verse 3)

Younger women: Love their husband and children, living wise and pure, managing their household and obedient to their own husbands (verses 4-5)

Younger men: Live wise with integrity and do good works, teaching the truth (verses 6-8)

Workers: Be obedient, not steal and be trustworthy (verse 9)

By doing this ➡ we glorify God and His teachings (verse 10)

How to Preach the Gospel Message to Others

Verses 11-14, clearly explains the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a nutshell.

  1. What is God’s gift? Answer: Salvation
  2. How should we live in this world? Answer: turning away from sinful pleasures and acts of ungodliness
  3. What is our hope? Answer: the return or reunion with Christ Jesus
  4. What did Jesus do? Answer: He gave His life to save us from the punishment of sin – God’s wrath

Titus Chapter 3

Final Reminder

Paul gives a recap of all that he has spoken in this book of Titus and in his other Letters. He reminds us to be obedient, gentle and humble.

He admits that we have all ways in disobedient ways – including himself, but God changed everything.

He gives a mini recap of the goodness of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in verses 4-7.

Final warning to not be entangled in things that do not benefit the advancing of the Kingdom of God. These often result in rebellion and causing people to turn away from the truth.
