We may be anxious about things of this world. But God says, Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)

We may feel insecure about our weaknesses. But God says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)

We may feel unworthy to walk with God. But God says – To those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12)

We may feel dejected because we feel we don’t have enough. But God says, You will lack nothing. (Psalm 23:1)

We may be in the midst of a problem we cannot solve. But God tells us that He is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1)

We may feel weary and burdened. But God says, Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

We may have low self-esteem. But God, Sets the lowly on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety. (Job 5:11)

But God… can heal the sick.

But God… gave us His only Son Jesus, that we may be saved.

But God… can do the impossible.

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26 (ESV)

We may be stuck in a disastrous season in life, but God and only God, can turn it around for good.

Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. Zechariah 4:6

Although we may knowingly or unknowingly sin against God, yet it is the will of God to forgive us when we turn to Him in repentance.

God is always ready with a plan to save us, no matter how far we walk away from Him. But are we ready to acknowledge Him and accept His grace? Thus says the Lord,

Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.

Isaiah 43:1 (NKJV)

But God Bible Verses

*Note: Bible Verses below are taken from the ESV translation

1. But God Meant it for Good

But God phrase

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that my people should be kept alive, as they are today. Genesis 50:20

The story of Joseph is an incredible lesson in the Bible, about how God can allow us to go through hard times in life and still come out victorious.

Joseph was the youngest son of Jacob, and was hated by his brothers because of jealousy. So they sold him into slavery and later he was sent to prison for 2 years, finally becoming the highest ranking official in Egypt – second to Pharoah.

Throughout all the obstacles he faced, Joseph remained righteous and which is when the favour of God was released over his life.

Joseph youngest son of Jacob sold into slavery wrongly accused and sent to prison BUT GOD rewarded him for his righteousness.

2. But God is in Control

But God meaning

And David remained in the strongholds in the wilderness, in the hill country of the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God did not give him into his hand. 1 Samuel 23:14

Here is another story of jealousy that revealed the glory of God on David’s life. David became an enemy to King Saul. Since David’s popularity among the people increased as he won many wars, King Saul grew jealous of him. This resulted in Saul seeking to kill David, but God did not allow that to happen.

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21

3. But God is My Strength

But Gid quotes

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26

While we battle the desires of our hearts to align them with God, we are to remember to rely on the strength of the Lord and not in our own ability.

When we rely on our own strength to accomplish things, we put God in the back seat, and take matters into our own hands. Yes, there are things we can do in our own strength, but we are to allow God to be the centre of our lives. God is to be place above all our desires, and when we acknowledge Him in all that we do, He will make our paths straight (Proverbs 3:6).

4. But God Can Turn the Worst Situation Around

But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!” Luke 8:54

When Jairus’ daughter had died, Jesus entered his house and saw the people weeping. Jesus said told them not to weep as the girl was not dead but sleeping. The people on hearing His words mocked Jesus.

But God, took her by her hand and the child was awake!

The spirit entered her body and she got up. Jesus then told them to give her something to eat, and her parents were amazed at this miracle. Such is the power and saving grace of Jesus Christ.

5. But God Resurrected Him

But God raised him on the third day and made him to appear. Acts 10:40

Although Jesus was rejected by the people whom He created (John 1:10) and was crucified, yet God raised Him from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit.

When we start reading from Acts 10:36 onwards, we see that Jesus came to earth to do good – proclaim the Gospel and heal His people. Yet He was put to death by His own people, but God had other plans.

He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. John 1:11

Not only was Jesus resurrected and alive, but He is also the only way to the Father (John 14:6), and whoever believes in Jesus will have eternal life (John 3:16).

Man planned to destroy Jesus but God had an even better plan to save us.

Everything happens according to God’s perfect plan.

And when they had carried out all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead. Acts 13:29-30

6. But God Cares for Sinners

For one will scarcely die for a righteous person though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:7-8

God is merciful and forgiving even though we constantly rebel against Him (Daniel 9:9).

We understand from the Bible that God has been ready to forgive man although we keep falling into sin. We may at times feel unworthy to accept God’s grace of salvation, but God still chooses to show His love for us sinners.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

7. But God Seeks the Humble and Lowly

One trouble after another seems to overtake your life even as you walk with Christ. But you are God’s chosen people to whom blessings and abundance will be restored as you continue to remain obedient to His Word. James 4:10 says, humble yourselves before the Lord and He will lift you up. Humility is what allows God to work His ways through us as we become readily submitted to Him.

When we remind ourselves that we are God’s chosen people, strength and courage intensifies as we remind ourselves of God’s promises.

For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. Deuteronomy 7:6

The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. Deuteronomy 7:7

8. But God Gave Us a Free Gift of Salvation

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Sin came into this world through Adam, but God had a plan to give us eternal life through Jesus Christ – the gift of salvation.

God Almighty never leaves us stranded. He always shows us a way out of situations, including sin. If God is for us then who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)

9. But God Chose to Reveal Himself to Us

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong. 1 Corinthians 1:27

God works in mysterious ways that no man can understand. God’s thoughts are unlike our thoughts and His ways are higher than our ways.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9

Jesus chose to reveal Himself to fishermen and a tax collector making them His disciples, and He revealed Himself to be the Messiah to a Samaritan women, again an unlikely choice at that time. But God reveals Himself to the humble and broken hearted. 2 Corinthians 12:9 tells us that God’s power is made perfect in our weakness.

It is easier for God to work through someone who is open and willing to accept God’s plan, as opposed to someone who has created barriers in front of them. No matter what Jesus said, the Jews at that time were never willing to accept that Jesus was the Christ (John 10:23) as compared to Peter who readily accepted this truth from the beginning (Matthew 16:13).

10. But God Cares about Us

But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Matthew 6:30

Jesus is calling people unto to Him, all those who are weary and He will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).

Here are some other ‘But God’ bible verses that show us that although we may be overcome with sin, He will show us a way.

1 Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Ephesians 2:4-6(ESV)- But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ by grace you have been saved and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
