A powerful declaration by our Lord and Saviour,

I, I am the Lord, and besides me there is no saviour. Isaiah 43:11 (ESV)

And this is what He says,

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19

Letting Go and Trusting God

Apostle Paul writes, “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” This verse reminds us that we are not to be defined by our past, but to rather focus on our future that God has for us.

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21

How to Let Go and Let God Take Over Our Past

1. Embracing Forgiveness by Laying it Before God

Forgiving ourselves can be one of the most difficult things to do. We often hold onto our mistakes and past failures, which can prevent us from moving forward. However, it’s important to remember that we are not perfect, and we all make mistakes.

When we talk about forgiveness, we cannot ignore the fact that God is the ultimate forgiver. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” This verse reminds us that God is always ready to forgive us if we confess our sins to him.

We must also remember that forgiveness is not just about letting go of the past, but it’s also about moving forward with God.

When we embrace God’s forgiveness, we are free to live our lives without the burden of guilt and shame. Remind yourself of the bible stories where God willing forgives us for our mistakes once we repent and move on.

2. Moving Forward with God

As we let go of the past, it’s important to reflect on the lessons we’ve learned.

Letting go of the past can be challenging, but it’s important to focus on the present moment.

We can’t change the past, but we can control how we react to it. By living in the present, we can fully appreciate Gods new gifts and blessings we have today. We can cherish the people in our lives and the experiences we have. We can also use the present moment to work towards our goals and make positive changes in our lives.

3. Let Go of Being In Control Of the Situation

No matter what life throws at us, good or bad we somehow have the urge to fix it.

It is always encouraging to believe that no matter what we are going through, God will work it out for our good.

God is in control of our life if we allow Him to. And this here is the key to understanding what giving it to God means.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

2 Corinthians 5:17

4. Letting Go of Fear

Another big factor that often holds us back from moving forward, is fear.

Fear can manifest in our lives in the form of worrying about our finances, good health, family, the future or even in relationships.

Fear is an emotion that we feel about something that may not even happen. But when fear creeps into our minds, we worry without a need.

While fear is something that we can’t 100% get rid off, but we can pray and ask God to guide us through times of uncertainty.

Knowing that no matter what happens God is with me, is the best way to fight fear.

Let go of fear, and let God take that fear away from you!

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

5. Let Go of Our Plans and Let Gods plans to Be Established

Throughout the Bible, we see examples of people who were called by God to fulfill a specific purpose.

From Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt, to Esther saving her people from destruction, God has a unique plan for each of our lives.

As we seek to understand and follow His plan, we can find fulfillment and purpose in our daily lives.

But how do we discern God’s plan for our lives? It can be easy to get caught up in our own desires and ambitions, but ultimately we must surrender our will to His.

Through prayer, reading the Bible, and seeking wise counsel from fellow believers, we can begin to understand the path that God has set before us.

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

How Do We Let Go and Let God Take Over Our Worries?

While this can be a trying time, here’s how you can learn to let go and experience the peace that surpasses all understanding.

  1. Get into the Word
  2. Pray
  3. Give to Others
  4. Find your calling
  5. See the bigger picture

There’s a lot you can do to strengthen faith and rely on God to be a mighty fortress when the devil is prowling.

This article will explore the essential steps you need to know to let go of your circumstances and give it all to God.

1. Get into the Word

The first thing that you can do to learn how to let God have dominion in your life is to understand His will.

Doing so can often be difficult, but because God speaks to us through His Word, it’s imperative that you set aside time every day, morning or evening, to read the Bible.

When you do, you’ll feel more connected with God’s truth and be more capable of stepping outside of your material concerns and focusing on His heavenly kingdom.

The more regularly we interact with the Scriptures, the more we can rely on the word, in times of trouble and remind ourselves to trust him.

2. Pray

While reading God’s word enlightens our minds and uplifts us, prayers is our true connection with God – on a personal level.

Prayer is extremely powerful, but we shouldn’t think of it as exclusively something that moves God to act.

In many ways, prayer is more about us and our relationship with God than it is about asking Him to do things.

Use prayer as your safe space away from the troubles of the world. Not only will this help you to set your mind on what is good and pure, but because prayer is your direct link to God, you can receive guidance and wisdom by praying.

You should pray intimately and privately, but also never shy away from praying with others.

The more you pray, the more you’ll start to see God answering your prayers and moving in your lives and the community around you.

3. Give to Others Who are in Need

God calls us to sacrificial service. It’s something that makes us distinct from those around us; we serve never expecting anything in return.

The more you learn to give, the more you set your mind on the things that matter to God an not the world.

When you do so, God in turn, slowly changes your mind to think less about the things that have hurt you and stress you, and more about His kingdom.

When you serve, you also interact with and get to know other believers who can strengthen your faith as a new Christian and who can encourage you with bible verses of faith in difficult times.

4. Find Your Calling

Another important aspect of learning to let go, surprisingly, is finding God’s purpose for your life.

You may never understand why He has put you where you are today, but that’s not something that you need to understand to have peace about it.

God gives us gifts and inspires us with His spirit to use those gifts for the betterment of those around us.

Take some time to pray, read the Bible, and engage with God’s people to find where God has placed you right now.

You may not understand why you’re there, but with prayer, God may reveal what you need to be doing in this season of life.

That assurance is beautiful and priceless; it can give you a peace when you’re in a hard relationship or dealing with a massive amount of stress.

5. See the Bigger Picture

At the end of the day, life isn’t about us.

It’s about glorifying God.

We do this through submitting to Him in our daily lives, offering ourselves as a living sacrifice to His will.

As a new Christian, it’s easy to be enamored with the amazing grace offered through the forgiveness of sins, but it can be harder to resonate with the kingdom mission on earth.

Start earnestly praying, reading God’s word, and you’ll begin to have peace about your circumstances.

Remember, worrying isn’t Christlike and can steal your joy. It’s a trick by the enemy to make you concerned about material things, when, in light of eternity, those things don’t matter.

When you learn to set aside your pride and operate with complete submission to Him, it becomes much easier to let go of things that have hurt you and let God continue to move in your life, shaping you for the better.

Final Thoughts on How to Let Go and Let God

Starting your walk with God is a beautiful thing, and as you learn more about Him (and yourself), you may find one of the hardest things is letting go of the past and letting God move through you.

Through reading of the Scriptures, prayer, service, and introspection, you can start to let God have control.

In conclusion, embracing forgiveness is an essential part of letting go of the past. We must understand that God is always ready to forgive us, and that forgiving ourselves is crucial to moving forward. Letting go of the past can be difficult, but with God’s help, we can embrace forgiveness and live our lives to the fullest.
